Statement of Intent

To generate a polished brand identity that shows the musicality and sophistication of R&B music, through front covers and contents pages, I created a media product that would appeal to a target audience of 16-25-year-olds who fit into the demographic category and economic social grade of AB. Making this social group my key demographic would acknowledge the fact that I have held these attributes to a high standard. Within both front covers and contents pages, I have maintained a pattern of the same fonts and have tried to keep them all the same size – such as, using capital letters and bold fonts. In doing this I hope to have created a simplistic yet still intriguing design that would attract the attention of my audiences. As well as this, following similar formats from other magazines, such as vogue, GQ and billboard, would give me a pre-sold audience that would ensure familiarity with other customers. To ensure that I have been able to keep audiences, I have kept the cost of the magazine low purposefully to make sure that people that may be intrigued from lower social class backgrounds would still be able to afford it as consumerism is my main goal, as well as gaining a global reach within the media product that I create. My print products follow a colour scheme that fit within my R&B genre, to maintain interest for my target audiences. The main colours for my magazine as well as contents page is ‘burnt orange’ as well as ‘sangria’, which are heavily featured within the music genre, using album covers as well as fashion, ensuring that my magazine still applies to those who are fans of R&B. I have also kept the same colour scheme for my website so that the print products and the website remain on theme for the music genre. I have also taken inspiration from other music magazines to ensure familiarity for audiences as it would ensure more interactions as I would keep my website simple to understand. As well as this, I have also kept my website interactive for the audiences so that there will be more interest created as well as attaching contact information for audiences to reach out to my company. I also have a link page that the audiences can click on which displays information about newest issues. Furthermore, I have tried to maintain a clear image that links to media language techniques such as the same typography throughput the webpages that link directly to my artists by remaining on the same topic theme. The images of my artists are kept similar sizes to engage audiences as well as information that is provided to engage them to my theme of music website. In both media products I will work to create strong digital convergence, to do this I have created familiar products and attributes in my work so that my audiences remain engaged as well as allowing information on my artists to go into greater detail on my website. This would help to allow a stronger following of younger audiences as they are more likely to be the ones to engage in digital products in comparison to those in the older age demographics.

Due to the essentiality of seamless brand identity, I have maintained a personal image for my magazine and website design which will allow my audiences to recognise the brand identity as a piece of original work, such as including the same masthead and title font for both my website and my magazine to create an image of recognisability for those engaging in my products. I will also add in specific media products that can be accessed only through the magazine or the website, this would allow my products to gain an active audience as the target audience would be actively engaging in the entirety of my product.
